I'm thinking of buying a '01 x5 3.0 with 48k miles. It's a certified pre-owned with a warranty up to 100,000 miles. Does anyone have an x5 with really high mileage??? What problems/maint. can I expect after 100k miles? What's the life expectancy for this vehicle?

Id say thats not bad mileage at all, while its semi-high for an 01, its not rediculous, ive seen 03 vehicles with 25 - 30k and with the 100k warranty your covered for another 50 anyway.

A late model with high mileage is better than an early model with high mileage. If most of the driving is freeway, you're better off.

On both my X5s, I encountered these identical problems with a lot less mileage:
Rear tailgate pops open on its own. Factory is aware of common problem
All 4 door locks imoperable in winter: Factory is aware of common problem
Both front ends had to be rebuilt
Rotor and pads at low mileage
O2 sensor problem in 2001 X5.

Make sure you get a good warranty.
