Looking to buy my first BMW and I was wondering what would be a better purchase, an e-36 or an e-34. I am a college student looking for a BMW that is under $6000, and is a strong reliable car for the travel home, that has good accel, handling, for fun, space for moving to and from college, and gas milage for the travel home. Thanks for the input.

I like my e34 myself. Suspension is overly complicated and a PITA to work on compared to the 3 series, but the chasis is pretty reliable. But most people go for e36's because they look a touch more "modern".

As a college student who has owned an e34 and currently owns a e36, i'd honestly recommend an e36.

On a looks basis, the e36 looks more "modern," as stated above, but also more agressive. It has beautiful styling. Many owners of BMW's prior to the e36 say it's a played out car that it far too common. Honestly the e36 is a beautiful looking vehicle, which is why it's so loved and common.

The chasis is solid. It's rigid.

The engine and mechanics have had FEW problems in the e36, especially in comparison to the e34. There is only one common problem with the e36 and that's the plastic impellor water pump (which th ee34 has aswell).Replace that for $60 in the e36 and call it a day.

The e36 has better gas mileage than the e34. The e36 handles batter. The e36 accel's better. The e36 MOVES SHIT TO COLLEGE TO AND FROM BETTER han an e34, and I have a coupe. yeha that's right the e36 coupe moves sht better than an e34. sedan. I moved all I ndeed to move to college in my e36 coupe from Los angeles, Ca to St. Louis, MO in one trip. The e34 has a back seat that doesnt fold, which made the e36, not onl a more reliable car, but alsoa car that is more versatile in moving.

All in all, I loved my e34, but it was defintely not as great as the e36 (as much as e34 owners bullshit about how much crap e36 owners are).

E34 M5 you mean? Those cars are indeed sexy.

i was thinking of both M cars becuase i find them both very attractive. Sorry.:) E30, and E34 Everytime i see one of those, IF i see them, i just stare at the car, i really like both stylings, but the E30 was my favorite, but like i said i love them both, if i could i would add them to my garage. :)
