s/c - comes directly from engine through belts for instant power

They both do the SAME thing....just difference on the mechanics on how it works 1 use exhuast gases....etc. the other uses your belts to make high vol. airflow....how can you understand turbo but not SC.....go figure..

A supercharger will give u more direct power w/o lag cuz its directly driven by a pully and belt. The turbo will lag but when it does kick in its more powerful than a supercharger. However turbo's require a lot more engine tuning and timing, a supercharger is basicly bolt on power close the hood and forget. With both though you still need upgraded cooling (air to water intercooler for super, air to air for a turbo).

thats not a entirely true. a small turbo will have very little lag, and have good low end to mid range power but generate alot of heat and back pressure and higher rpm. where as a a big turbo will have larger boost threshold, or lag, but provide good power at high rpm while not running as hot due to less back pressure. for example porsche used a big turbo in the 993 911 turbos and got away with just air cooling it, but a car like the old 300zx turbos used small turbos and required a extensive water cooling system

One of the major benifits of a turbo is - If you get a boost controller you can adjust the amount of boost even while driving... So if its raining or you just dont feel like going fast you can reduce the boost and drive a bit slower but when some pulls up you can raise it and smoke the tires off whoever thinks they can beat a BMW! But superchargers have there benifits as well. Although they DO require tuneing they require less. With both instances you need to increase FUEL FLOW! Just bolting on a turbo or SC wont do a whole lot without giving the motor more gas. The purpous of the turbo/SC is to provide more air so you CAN add more gas for more power. Really its a prefernce thing between the two... What pros and cons are you wanting and are readdy to deal with. :driving

dont forget in a quatermile superchargers i think are better
bassically turbo adds for a better top speed and supercharagers are better for execleration. also since the turbo gets the air from the exasut its going to be making your engine run hotter than a supercharged engine.

Which ever way you go you'll need to o-ring the head to withstand the extra pressure generated in the combustion chamber. O-ring head is when they cut a groove in the head and insert a steel wire in groove to pinch head gasket down more firmly. Also you should change piston to lower compression 7:1 would be desirable for turbo or S/C.
And increase the fuel delivery ( higher flow injectors)Also need to open exhaust to allow the extra air that you induced out.
A trick to get rid of lag-time in turbo is to install a small nos system to get car on boost only.

read a book called maximum boost, in the book store right next to it, by the same author is an in depth look at superchargers... if u go turbo, do it urself, read the book, find out engine specs and customize ur own setup... nice turbo $600-900 (bigger isnt always better a smaller one will spool quicker becuase it needs less air to fill the turbine and make the blades spin) get a nice intercooler $300-400 core along w/the proper piping, tthe intercooloer lets u run at a higher boost and usually adds power b/c of the extra air allowed, u might need new fuel rails and fuel pump, bigger injecters, manual boost, and if u can a aftermarket ecu for turbo, youll need special manifold for turbo, oh yeah, if looking for tubro get an external wastegate, and if u do decide to go w/a kit i dont think u should get one that talks about fuel enrichment, not sure about the last part
