I do not own a bmw YET but Im looking into buying one as we speak for a really good price maybe. The owner tells me the timing belt broke so what Iam looking to find out if it is possible for the pistons to slap the valves and bend or break the pistons when the engine comes out of time or should that not be a concern. It is 1993 325i, I know nothing about bmw's but love the cars. How hard is timing belt to change and is possible there is alot more engine damage inside because it broke. Can somebody please help me on this thanks

AFAIK that year has an interference engine. I'd do some searching on interference engines to make sure.

Well for a start the car has a chain not a belt ... and they almost never break ...

I havent looked to much into it yet but havent bought the car yet. thanks everybody for the info and I hope here soon I will be part of the bmw family. I love the way look, ride and come on its a beamer who wouldnt want one

As mentioned BMW's do not have timing belts but rather have timing chains. If any belt broke it's the accessory belt which drives the alternator, water pump, A/C, and auxiliary fan. That is an easy fix and honestly not that big of a deal and if the owner believes the timing belt broke and wants to let it go cheap I'd say take advantage of them.
