Ok. Guys. m42b18 engine is kinda pissing me off. I want more. There's hardly crap out there to do to it. Yeah, I can get a chip, and so on and so forth, but unless you guys know where to get stuff for this engine performance wise, I'm looking at a swap. Dump the 4cyl and go for the more common I6.

I was thinking maybe m50b25 or maybe an s50 but that's pretty expensive. BMW Parts used and rebuilt bmw auto parts has a '95 m3 engine, tranny, and cluster for about 3.8 k.

I wouldn't mind not having the M3 engine and just building up the 325i set up but where do I find a reasonably priced m50, tranny, ecu, harness, and cluster?

Would I need a new diff and drive shaft too?

Any help?

I'm sure bavarian auto recycling has all the stuff, just haven't been able to get ahold of them the past few days and ebay and craigslist have officially disappointed me.

I'll keep you guys updated and hook it up with links and what not.

Check the classified on the forums, someone is always parting something out. If you are anywhere near lower Michigan, there's a guy by the name of Charbel on bimmerforums that parts them out all the time. Claims to have anything you might need.

go s50 or you will be dissapointed. otherwise i suggest selling your car and look for an early model e46 330. that 3.8k plus whatever you get for your car is a decent down payment.

Problem is, every s50 i've seen, is 4k or up. the 318 i have won't sell for more than 800 AND I've still got payments on it. I really don't mind putting 1550 into the m50 because it's still obd1, I can do more to it in the future, and it's still better than the 4cyl piece of shit I've got now. That and I don't like the E46 body style as much.

E46 are nice but look into e36, you can find a decent M for about 8k. I picked mine up for even less than that. Great aftermarket support also.

Faster, handles better, I ran my buddies 330ci with bolt ons and pulled on him.
