hows it goin guys, im proud to say ill b joining the BMW family in a week or so. Im just waiting for my 04 //m3 cabriolet to arrive! I was really lucky cause i didnt need to wait for it to come all the way from germany, a jet black cab with red interior, smg, 19 inch wheels, everything i wanted was sittin somewhere on the eastcoast and i found out i would only have to wait a couple weeks. :yup I have some questions though, when i test drove the m3 the guy at the dealership said that the engine needs to be broken in, and that you cant truly experience an m3 until 5000 km. What did he mean by this? by breaking in, am i not supposed to kick it down the highway? what should i do/not do during this time? Also my friend said that he was told that doing the launch control more tha 10 times can void the warranty of my m3. Is this true? How hard is launch control on the car? Obviously im not gonna make a habit of doing this, but i dont want to feel too guilty when i do this. And also does anyone have pictures of the hardtop addon for the cabriolet? :D

you have to let the piston rings seat properly. the first 5000km are most important for this. follow the break in procedures in your manual

congrats and welcome. If you have SMG then yes a certain part of your warranty is void after 10 launches when using launch control.

thanks for the welcome guys, just curious but how many times have you guys tried the launch control? is it very different than just taking off regularily? And is there somewhere where i can maybe download or view the manual for an m3, i want to know as much about my car before i even get it, im sure ill be too excited to read about it if i can rather just go hop in and drive it. i particularily want to know about the break in procedure. I was planing on drivin to a friends house which is about 400km's away from where i live for a couple days when i finish my exams. Would this not be a good idea about a week or so after i get it? :driving

During break in it do not drive for long periods at constant speeds. Up an down on the throttle is best. No wide open throttle. There is a complete section about break in in the owners manual and a sticker inside the windshield with instructions. I have about 1500 miles on my o4 M3. read my post about "04 M3 owners plese read" hopefully I will have my answer before you can let me know about this issue. I have not tried the launch control. I am not sure that feature is on the US 04 M3. I have heard you can get the Euro software that will work and at a higher RPM launch. from a standing start if you nail the gas with traction control disable hook up is an issue anyway. Actually from about 10 or 15 MPH I have nailed the gas and had it bounch off the rev limiter before I coud get out of the throttle. The handling and brakes are scary good. Enjoy.

i cant bilieve how excited im getting about my m3, i still have 2 exams left and its all i can think about! So i guess that it wouldnt b a good idea to go for a long drive after i got it. I would expect that the canadian models at least would have launch control. And if canadian models have it then us models should deffenitely have it. i say that canadian models probably have it because on www.bmw.ca the canadian bmw website has several videos on the m3, and there is a vid on how to use launch control. sorry about spelling gf wont shut up tryin to talk on phone and type :banghead

long drives are fine for it during break in. just dont exceed the speeds mentioned during break in and vary your speed. take it easy on her for break in and you will be rewarded.
