Yeah, so tonight I was at a friend's house who's dad owns a practically brand new m3 convertible. I was doing my usual ooh's and ahh's that I do whenever I go there, and his dad was in the garage and asked me if I wanted to take it for a spin. *drool*

The dad let my friend drive, but he rode along in the backseat with me shootgun. I swear to god, after riding in that car, and going back to my little 3 series, my ego hit rock bottom. Being able to downshift to 2nd gear at 55mph and punch it is a crazy feeling. We were sitting at a red light and when it turned green he floored it, as I counted silently in my head for a 0-60, but when I looked back at the speedo to see when he hits 60, I realized he was already at 90.

The power of that car is astounding. Sitting in the car seat and having your body forcefully pressed backwards as your car learches forward is a feeling that you cannot live your life without experiencing.

I publically declare here and now that my next car will be an e46 m3 convertible. Hold me to it. :)

Oh, and at one point when we were going about 60 or so, he jerked the wheel left and right to show off the suspension. The dad in the backseat, who is one of the coolest dads I've ever seen, afterwards leaned up and said "How do you like the handling of this little fucker now?".

I just stared straight ahead and smiled.

I know exactly what you mean. The first time I drove the E39 M5 I was blown away. I had no idea that any car could be so fucking fast. There is nothing better than flooring a car in any gear, at any rpm and have it feel like a 200 pound man is sitting on your chest. I have driven turbo cars with around the same HP, but you just can't compare with BMW's NA throttle response. Instant power, no waiting for turbos to spool up.

I would also go for a coupe over the convertible.

But ya I know that sensation of speed your talking about, the first time I rode in a 911 (it was an '02 Cab) it was insane, its impossible to keep the smile off your face. I can't imagine what it would feel like to ride in an Enzo or something in the 'super exotic' realm.

But see, if I got an e46 m3, the convertible factor is sexy (from girl's pov). And also if I had the sadan, I'd lose my license in weeks. If I had the convertible, you tend to drive slower because you feel the wind and the experience is elevated (in my opinion at least), so I'd keep my license for at least another few months. :)
