The Dome Light in my 2000 BMW Z3 2.3 roadster turns on at night every time I turn on my headlights. Of course, I can turn it off by pressing the switch to the always off position. I tried changing the bulb from the 3 LED aftermarket one I installed back to the OEM Sylvania bulb that BMW recommends. Same behavior. Now I bought a 96-02 BMW Z3 OEM front interior dome light lamp and switch assembly and want to replace the old one with this new assembly and switch. Only problem is how to remove the old dome light assembly and switch from the windshield frame? Does anyone on this forum know how to go about doing that? I put out a query onf "Ask A Mechanic" and the BMW mechanic said that if changing the bulb didn't work I should change out the front interior dome light lamp and switch assembly because the problem is most likely in the switch. I do notice that the new switch moves from position to position much more crisply than the old switch did. So maybe "Ask A Mechanic" is right. I just want to remove the interior panel of the windshield frame without doing any damage. Haven't been able to locate a procedure on line for doing this, which accounts for this post. Any suggestions?
