I am interested in purchasing a second-hand BMW. I particularly love the BMW's from the 1980's & 1970's. I LOVE the body designs!

I will be using the car to commute daily in an urban city.

Which BMW do you recommend for me? Also, how much should I allow for my budget? Again, I want to purchase a BMW from the 1980's or 1970's.

Please advise.

youve got great taste :thumbs BMW NA started in 1976 with the 2002, but there have been many great models after that. but up until the high revving E30's came out in 1987, the 3series have been known to lack the soul of the 2002 despite their classic design. if i had the money to buy a classic bmw i would probably get a 635csi which was in production for most of the 80's, or maybe even a M6. though m3turbog16's E21 is to die for, you should look around the board for pics of his car. if you want a excellent all around performer then maybe you should look into getting a 2002 and dropping a S14 (e30 m3) engine in it.

wtf are you smoking? '76 was the LAST year of they 2002. They came out in 1968... and it wasnt the first car BMW brought to the US.

Since this is gonna be a daily driven commuter, I am NOT going to recommend a 6 series. Im just curious though, how much are you looking to spend? If youre just wanting to pick up something cheap, you can get a 2002, a 320i, or even an early E30 for a reasonable price.

whoops i just meant to say they started with the 2002, and got the years mixed. BMW of NA started in 1973 and the 2002 was among the first bmw's in the country under bmw na, but i'm not saying there were no bmw's in the us before then.

btw, why wouldnt you recommend a 6series? sure they probably cost more to maintain than a e30, but they wont run you dry if you have a budget of around maybe 15k, plus he never mentioned performance as a key concern

If he never said performance was a concern, then why would he need to get a hot rod? It sounded to me like he just wanted an economical daily driver, so I named him some.

Hell, he never even said what his budget was. 6ers cost WAY more to maintain than an E30.
