I'm looking at a 97 328I with 68000 miles and a 5 speed. The car seems to be in very good shape but there is a minor valve train noise, sounds like a lifter. Is it common to have some valvetrain noise? And about how much does doesn a valve adjustment cost at the local dealership? It also sounds like a wheel bearing is going out in the rearend, has anybody ever seen this ( it could just be the brakes)? One last question; About how much do the dealers charge to replace the clutch on this car?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

very common to have noise from the engine. it kinda scares me when i dont hear any. one time we had this E36 328convertable come into the shop and it was soo quiet that the head mechanic said "that isnt right there must be something wrong with it" (the car was only in for breaks) not when we opened the hood sure enough the auxilury fan was siezed and the clutch fan had somehow broke ,,,,point is that our cars make noise , personally upon researching and looking at new cars to buy i always get a mechanic to overlook the car and see what can/could/is wrong with it.
