I Have a 2000 BMW 528I.
It was running good/great but on occasion it would take 3-4 seconds to start. And I felt like it just didn’t have the power on takeoff that it should. Drives great at high speeds.
So I figured I would do the besian vanos seals procedure. I had a Mechanic help me in my garage. While I was in I replaced the Spark plugs, coolant expansion tank. Fan shroud. (they had riveted the coolant expansion onto the fanshroud so I ordered new ones from pelican). I also switched the oil to royal purple 5w-30.
After changing the seals I pulled the codes at Autozone and have the P0340 P1188 and P1189
It seems to crank ok but if you let it idle after about 10 seconds it will begin shaking. The shaking will stop once you take off. There is also a high pitch whistle between 1500 and 2000 rpm’s. I have sprayed brake cleaner to check for leaks and have found no noticeable rpm change. The whistle only seems to be when I am moving, when in park I do not hear it. I’ll check again to make sure.

Does everyone think it is the Camshaft Position Sensor or do I have another issue?

P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor
P1188 - Fuel Control Bank 1
P1189 - Fuel Control Bank 2

taking all you codes into consideration, i will say the VANOS was not re-installed correctly. Instead of going for the camshaft sensor, i would go back and re-check your work.

a malperforming VANOS (which moves around your valve timing) at different engine speeds can cause the shaking u complain of.

check also for missed wires... hose left unconnected(maybe)

Thanks I will take it off and give it a check

This morning i found a hole in my intake bellow going to the idle control about an inch in diameter i have the intake bellow on order ( I have duct tape on the hole right now)
I will reset the codes drive around see what happens then take off the vanos and see.
the mechanic friend that was helping did put assy lube all over the new seals which was not in the procedure he had never rebuilt the vanos before. They just replace them at the shop where he works.
