I was browsing through the junkyard and found a beautiful '94 540i with all the good stuff taken out. Under the back seat I found an original keyless entry system, with a part number that no BMW dealer in my area could recognize. I picked it up anyway :dunno . The question to those who have installed OEM BMW keyless entry unit (or alarm, same thing) into their E36s - do you think the unit I picked up might fit the E36? It has a green connector with male 12-pin top row and 10-pin bottom row. The dimensions, input voltage and appearance of the box is identical to the units used on E36. Part # 90 88 1 600 309. Thanks.

try it and see. If the pics are all the same, it should.

The thing is - I got the module without the remote, and I didn't want to waste time and money buying one and installing the system in the car, if it won't work. I can't find the pin layout for the E36 keyless entry system (the green male connector). If anybody has it, info is greatly appreciated (how many pins in top and bottom rows).

do you even have dip-switches on there? shouldn't it be one of the randomizing ones that teaches the remote how to change the code every time? otherwise getting into your car is as simple as being near you when you press your remote once with a machine that scans radio and saves the code.
