Guys, ya just knew I had to choose "Mercedes" as a screen name...

Anyway, here are some photos of my 'baby', stock for the most part except for a dinan chip. I've had it for two years now as my daily driver without a single problem. I just rolled 60,000 miles with it about a month ago, and it's going strong. I've recently started to get the urge to modify it somewhat as I've been killed by enough cheap cars (Evo, STI to name a few)...

Google search for BMW Forums. This was the second one down, methinks... I want to modify this thing, and I figured hanging around an enthusiast group (which I probably should have done when I got the car) would help me out in choosing what to do...

Uh, those are just regular old M3 seats, as far as I know. If anybody else knows differently, please tell me. I bought the car from a co-worker, and he told me that he had never done anything to it... so I'm assuming it's just totally stock.

greetings :wave

:thumbs nice

the seats are manual vaders.

for mods you have the world open to you, depends on how much you wanna spend. :drunk

if you haven't already seen it, there is a killer E36 M3 FAQ at http://www.eurospeed.org

some popular mods/tuners are
http://www.activeautowerke.com
http://www.dinanbmw.com (expensive but doesn't void warranty)

general DIY, with a few performance DIY writeups
http://www.logun.org/e36_info.htm
http://www.geocities.com/e36rulz/DIY.html

uhh.. actually don't we have a FAQ lying around somewhere ;)

rock on and :band

How much am I looking to spend...? That's a tough question. First thing, I need to do some routine maintenance. The clutch isn't quite as happy as it used to be (yes, I'm abusive)... I don't want to put any higher performance clutch in there, the stock one is finicky enough.

I have no desire to supercharge it... but I would like to stay under around $2000 or so. How much horsepower will that buy?

cheap power you should just get nitrous or something but i wouldnt recommend that...if you wanna stay around 2k i say get some cams/intake/exhaust and a new chip tuned for the above and you should be pretty happy

Intake - $300 ... 5-10hp
Exhaust - $700 .... 5-8 hp
Pullies - $200 .... 7-10 hp
Chip - $400 .... 10 hp
AA track pipe - $600 .... 10-15 hp

Expensive... for what seems like relatively little power. If this were a Mustang, $2000 would get me 400 HP... but then again, there is no way a Mustang would ever be as nice.

i look at it like this

mustang = mcdonald's, you can get a lot of food for little $, but :sick

m3 = filet mignon, gotta pay $$$ to fill you up, but :drool

that's the price of owning a top of the line german car. if you want cheap HP this is certainly the wrong car.

I've had the car for 2 years... if I wanted cheap HP, I could have it. But... sorry, NOTHING that the USA has to offer (or the Japanese for that matter...) comes close to the european offerings... despite it being harder to modify, I'd take an M3 over a Mustang Cobra any day... My parents left me with this word of advice: American cars suck. I am a firm believer in that!!

:drool

M3 forever!

Now I just gotta somehow save for an E46 w/ SMG. Mega drool.
