Hey everyone. I'm new here and thinking of buying an E36 M3. I'm a former BMW owner who made the mistake of buying an Audi last go round and I'm paying the price for it..........but that's another story.....

I'm on a budget, but see a lot of cars out there with between 50 and 90K miles. Would you rather have a car with 50 or 60K miles (knowing it's going to need some major service soon), or a car with 80K miles that has already had service done......ie clutch, timing belt, etc........?

Also, I seem to see a lot of '96 cars for a lot cheaper than the '97 and '98's. Any reason for this. The '96 models have the 3.2L engine like the '97's so what are the differences?

Thanks, and I've enjoyed brousing for the past few weeks........

I have a 1999 E36 M3 for sale that has about 42K miles on it. Want to take a look at it? ;)

AFAIK, there's no major difference between the '96 and '97 cars. The only thing I know for sure is that the '97 (and newer) E36 has a bit rounder kidney grilles.
