I am about to buy the 98 M3 with just under 70,000 on the clock.

It has had one owner. I am buying it from Carmax, they are owned by Circuit City which is a big electronics chain on the East Coast. It has a 3 year warranty.

Flam on on me for my Carmax Bimmer, but it is a good deal and a good car. I have not actually seen anything but a picture of it but it is on it's way here to Richmond Va from Charlotte NC. I have not yet bought it weither obviously, I am squirming like a kid who has to pee waiting for this thing to get here. I have that feeling that this is the car. All it needs for looks is the wing on the rear and the ninja star rims. I also willtint the windows ASAP. Gotta save the leather. My plan it to keep it three years, mod it and run it hard and fast while it is under warranty.I already have a Dinan CAI for it! And if I dont liek the steering wheel I also just got a MOMO Runner wheel for my Porsche that may find it's way into the Bimmer.

With the addition of the CAI what kind of straightline performance can I expect from the car? I am a good driver, I have placed several times in AutoX. I'm not going to drag race it alot or anything, I am just curious as to how it will acelerate in a line. I am also curious as to how this car will handle in comparison to my 1987 Porsche 944S with adjustable Konis, 245 Pirelli tires and Weltmeister 250# springs.
Can i scream into a corner like a monkey with his ass on fire , jump on the brakes and get a good four wheel drift out of it?

Please don't shit on my Porsche. It is a great car, it is not a regular 944, it is an S which has the 16V 2.5L engine. No low end whatsoever but get it over 3500RPMs and it sings! I can eat lightly modded 318's all day. It's actually pretty cool as I get to have the best of both worlds. I am not a big fan of 911 series Porsches, alot of them are owned by primadonnas and poseurs who just want a PORSH. Not all mind you, but letting a 2001 TT 911 geat smoked on the highway by a Mustang is pretty pitiful.

Wow I am in rant mode.

I ma really excited to get the M3, my four door V8 killer. I look forward to posting here and learning all I can about Bimmers. I have found a couple sites, my favorite is www.bmwinfo.com it has alot of info and stuff about BMW. I would love to hear about any sites you guys have or recommend for me to learn more. Any good books out there?

Thanks again.

lol, what year is your 944? The ones im familiar with are all 3.0 4 cylinders. Do you have an older one, like '83 s1? Because i know the 944 turbo (or 951) will eat up any m3 with a little timeing tune to the existing cam and increasing the boost to like 18 psi

my dad almost bought a 98 M3 from carmax, but turned it down cuz it was auto and dakar yellow. expect anywhere from 14.0-14.2 stock 1/4 miles times and 70k miles is nothing to worry about

High 13's if you are a great driver. The M3 was also ranked as the best handling car ever in 1997.
