Hey everybody, I have a small problem and am thinking it is the u-joint. Whenever I'm in first gear and rev the engine to redline and shift fast, once it reaches about 5500rpm I feel like a rumbling from the rear and when i shift into second it rumbles even more, but that is the only time it does it. Do you think this is the U-joint ? It has to be something from the driveshaft. Thanks for the help

sounds like a Geibo disk. its the rubber bushing between the tranny and the driveshaft. check it out. its proabably all freyed and worn. if you dont tend to it , you could loose your driveshaft all together and thats serious $$$$$.. just my guess.

yeah it could be the guibo (flex disc), check to see if any of the bolts are loose or missing.

If it was the flex disc it would also be very noticable when shifting into 1st from a stand still..it would be a 'thump' sound..

I do notice a faint thump sound when shifting into 1st from a stand still. So i should check the guibo disc ?

yes that is my non-professional opinion. the guibo disk has a limited life time on it, limited is only governed by how hard you drive your car, ie-burnouts, hard shifting at high RPM's, and having a heavy foot.
check that out, it sounds very much like th guibo disk, if it goes unattended you could make things worse and drop your drive shaft and lemme say that thats serious $$$$

Yes it could very well be a flex disc and your mechanic can take a visual on it and tell right away..not saying it is only because I have that same thump sound and my mechanic looked at it and it was not cracked..so I've gotten use to it and it hasn't changed a bit since day 1..been told it's just normal..

Thanks for the help guys, I will get this checked out soon. I found the flex disc for $56 and I know that if it is the disc I can do it myself so it will be a cheap repair. Thanks again.

thats not a bad deal, look into replacing your center support bearing as well. if your a DIY type of guy then i highly reccommend getting the bently manual for your car B)

also while you have the drive shaft down , its also a good idea to change the shifter bushings
