I don't have the Harmon Kardon system in my car (Nokia Speakers) so I want to upgrade my 95 318i head unit to an after market one because of the lack of bass. I walked into good guys to ask what I had to do to the car in order to change the head unit and they said I have to bypass my stock amp for another $80. I know bypassing the stock amp isn't too hard but is there even an oem amp located somewhere in my car? If they are going to charge me another $80 dollars I might as well do it my self.

After I get the head units I will probably get one sealed 12. I also want to know your opinions on the Nokia speakers hooked up to an after market head unit (does it have more bass then before?, Will I blow them with aftermarket head units?, Is it even worth it to keep them in the car?)

If there is an oem amp in my car where is it located and is there any harnesses I can buy to bypass it or will I have to cut the wires?

94 that had stock HU (its been replaced) has an oem amp (still in use) that is located behind the drivers side wheel well behind the interior of the trunk... it doesn't pull away/down quite and simply/nicely as some of the 5 series and such but I would say check there for the amp.

The good guys replaced my HU me here and just needed a harness and antenna adapter no bypassing nessary. I think they just want to do some extra work for some extra money. Unless the 95s really are that diffrent.

the 318s rarely have an amp. If you do, it will be in said location. You can by looking at you door panel. If you have two speakers in each door, you have an amp. if you have just a tweet, you dont.
