1215- the code indicates an open or short to ground at mass airflow sensor or wiring

you said it was running like crap well your car is running very rich at idle because of that sensor

good luck wiring is one of the most challenging tasks of the automotive industry especially on BMW's

first try to unplug it first. It will run on default mode as far as I know. That way you will know for sure that is the issue.

if that fixes it temporarily then move on to fixing the wiring. Look for any frays or weird spots in the wire before you take larger things apart.

theluis - yes... some good diagrams would help.

Numark --when i disconnect the sensor it gets almost undriveable, not just crappy. but with the code my computer is giving me i want to fix that first. then move on to other problems.

can anyone tell me what affect it would have if i just ran a new ground and 5 volt power to the sensor plug? would it have the same effect as if it were all working correctly? i checked the voltage to the plug at the big plug on passenger side and was only gettin 2.5 volts. and suggestions on how to fix the issue permanently?
