how can i tell if my donor car/motor has vanos, and how can i tell if the car had traction control. does it even matter if the donor had traction control?

Have you tried website searches with the VIN?

The traction ctrl shouldn't matter. The VANOS is easy to identify: http://www.autopower.se/begagnatguiden/e36/bilder/m50b25vanos.jpg

If the hump circled in red is there, it has VANOS, if not, it doesn't.
