hi my names dave would just like to say hi and say wot a great site you have here ok now for my problem ive just bought a 318is coupe mtec of a friend of mine car has always been well serviced anything it ever need its always had etc. car stood for a while probs about 4-6 months but had regular start ups and runs aroun the block etc, got the car last week running like a dream it was done several journeys and quite a few miles till i stopped to go in the shop came out started and it started spluttering loosing revs running quite bad and back firing etc managed to start it and gave it some welly and it seemed to clear it self etc it happened again exact thing so i took it to a garage near where i work for a service oil, plugs, filter and said could he look it over he done the service said its one the best ones he's seen and was nothing wrong with it. its was running loverly again until today it had same problem any sudjestions/help/advise in where to look please would be fantastic hope to hear thanks in advance dave

Try a look at the ignition system. Maybe the wires and coil(s) need replacing.

thanks mate for ya info etc, any tips on testing the coils etc? bit of a noob towards the bmw's etc slowly learning

Personally I'd prefer that sort of testing be done by a shop. But internet search may turn up a good way.

ok fella nice one also i noticed a little split in a pipe coming a bigger pipe from the air filter box goes under where there throttle cabe ajuster is think that mite be a issue with it?

I would replace that. Also check the intake tubes for cracks; these can confuse the airflow sensor.

just a quick one wen the ignition is on there like a vibrating noise coming from a black little box thing just in front of the ajuster for the throttle cable is this normal??? wen car is started it goes?

That may need a closer look by someone who knows better than I. How about a pic of it?
