well tonight i finally open the ole girl up.....some fellow in a trail blazer thought they were bad....so of course i had to show them up....well to my surprise the 740i didnt let me down at all....i was pinned to the seat as soon as my foot hit the floor....anyway.....i was wondering what type of oil to use when i change it.....ive read a post a while back telling you the schduled maintence theat bmw calls for..so i will be ordering a Bently manual soon and gonna perform all the maintence since..the person before me had it doesnt remember when he got it serviced but always got the oil changed every 3000 miles.....now the question....1995 740i 195000 miles.....what type weight oil to use...syn or non syn.....i also have a dodge and i run castrol reg in there with no problem...what does anyone recoomend...and also last question...should i be treating the gal more gentle or can she hang with the red line??

thanks to all

if most of the miles on your car are freeway miles your baby most likely can still hang...as for oil synthetic is always good but i personally wouldnt use anything lower than 5-40

i live in louisiana the southern part and it is always hot a humid.....so i would need a motor oil that will be good under demanding conditions....also what grade you reccomend....i noticed it was posted in this thread about 5W40 being the lowest.....im not to good at the weight scale on oils
