Finally... after too many years without

I'm a very happy owner of a 2003 E39 M5

...Every day it says to me "Let's drive!"

I drive through Cleveland whenever I go home to Indiana to see my family. Stay active on the boards, maybe we should hang out.

Such as? If there is something I need to know, tell me now! :eek:hnoes

I didn't jump into this without some careful thought. My local mechanic is a BMW owner; I checked with him ahead of time to make sure he can work on the car, and he's looked it over with a magnifying glass. Tells me it is in fantastic condition, inside, underneath, and out. The dealer that sold it to me put a new clutch/flywheel/throw-out/pressure plate in it, and my local BMW service/dealer also gives it a "two thumbs up" bill of health (this is my third BMW with them, and I know the service manager personally). BMW put in a new cluster to fix the bad pixels; they only charged me $105 for the labor to do it.

Oh yeah...

One more, very very important factor: My WIFE loves this car :D :rule So maintenance costs be damned, we're keeping it! :rofl

But seriously....

What else am I in for? Better to know up front!

You have dual vanos which is known to fail every so often. That repair can run around $2K.

You have dual MAF's. They will fail every 60-80K.

Glad to hear about the clutch work.

Your ABS module will break. New OEM unit $1300, rebuilt unit $400.

O2 sensors will die.

Window regulators will die.

Your radiator will die, and your fan clutch will die. Neither of these is predictable.

Crankshaft position sensors will die.

Heater water valve will die.

Power steering hoses will die.

Thrust arms, sway bar end links, bushings, ball joints, wheel bearings.

It sounds like a lot.

On the other hand, YOU OWN A TRUE RACE CAR that can pamper you in luxury and seat four people very comfortably. Like a redhead, it's worth it if you have the money.

How did you know my wife is a redhead? Irish in her blood, through and through :D

Thanks for the heads up, I'll at least be ready.
