Hi there, my friends M43 engine in his 1.6 Compact has blown, I have a spare engine from an 1995 318is and would like to know if it would fit his car.

If so any common problems to look out for, engine mounts etc

It should be a fairly straight forward swap, as there actually was a 318 compact with a m42 engine: therefore you wont have to make custom mounts or anything of that nature.
