Hi Guys,

I thought I would just drop you all a note to update those responding to my question awhile ago regarding the irratic idoling when cold. Well I tried the ICV, thanks FOX, it was a bit sticky and a good soak in petrol helped a treat. This however didn't cure the fault. I finally submitted and took it to my local dealer, BMW Vines @ Gatwick, they ran some diagnosics and confirmed my worst fears - VANOS! :(

However, after a couple of days the fault was fixed, and the inital price quoted £700+ had been reduced to a final bill of £345 all in :D So I'm happy with that! And can now sell it

sorry to hear that. usually its the IVC (note the FAQ in the FAQ forum) but it can also be the Vanos unit. they seem to have a limited life. im just hoping mine isnt ready to go. i dont think its that expensive from what ive heard.

Fox, not too sure? Basically they said that that - I now guess from your response - that the solonoids were sticking on both the inlet and outlet ports explaining poor idoling when cold. All I know is that its running just fine at the moment and ready to be sold....

Cheers for the comments :)
