it starts with out being in gear u know in nuetral and no clutch, its always done that. my prob is when its running i go into first, start to release the clutch and the car doesnt move. i had a shop say something bout a drive axle, but i dunno. i want everyones opinion. i can fully release the clutch and have the car still running. best part of that is i dont go anywhere. any ideas. :thud keep in mind that if i do need to pull the differential i wanna put an m3 4.10 closed one back in. lemme know about anything u guys know. thanks much

It does sound similar to a drive axle failure. If you were hit in the rear tire it could have damaged the CV joint on that axel. I assume that you have a non-limited slip differential by the way you describe the power transfer, all power will go to the side with the broken axle as it is the path of least resistance. Look under the rear of the car and see if the axle is visibly broken. If you lift the rear of the car off the ground and spin one tire the other should spin the other way. You can also take the wheels off to do a through inspection of the rear hub assembly. I hope you get it going again soon.

Its very hard to fully break a CV joint. It takes a lot of abuse to break both sides of the U. They will click a long time before they will break. Kinda sounds like the clutch itself is horribly gone.

im releasing the clutch as if i was driving down as normal. b4 it would make a thump thump thump sound, not when the clutch or the gears where moved or anything. but when i enguage the clutch and start moving thats when it would make the noise. after 20 mph or so it would go away.
