Hi there, I drive a 2002 523i. The problem I have had for the last two weeks is the DSC indicator light (triangle with an exclamation mark and a circular arrow) would light up after driving a certain distance.

Additional info:
1. On start it would light up briefly and disappear as the manual suggests
2. The ABS or brake warning lights do not come on with the DSC warning light
3. After turning the ignition off and restarting the car, the DSC light would go away as if everything was normal.

At first, I thought it was an electronic glitch that happened randomly, but on my regular driving route to work, I began to notice that it would light up at exactly the same place. I did an odometer check on the beginning of each drive and what I can confirm now is that the DSC warning light would come on after driving roughly 29 kms, anywhere!

I have searched through the forum, and have not seen a problem like mine. Before going to the dealer, and have them tell me that I need a new DSC control module, what should I have checked out first? Has anyone ever had a similar problem? :eek:hnoes

Is there any significant difference between your tires? Size, tire pressure etc that might skew the infromation that the sensors are getting. Has anything been worked on or changed recently on the car?

I suspected something similar, but the wheels and tires are all the same size and brands and had the tire pressure checked. The car has not been worked prior to the light coming on. I am thinking about having the tires re-balance, rotate and have the alignment checked.

Come to think about it, I did have minor brush with the curb. Ended up with some curb rash on the front and rear left wheels. Could that have an effect? :shifty

I doubt that the brush with the curb will have this effect, but you could always try changing that wheel with your spare, see it if makes any difference.

That is the only incident I can relate to indicator lights coming on. I read somewhere about reseting the wheel sensors. I am going to try reseting the wheel sensors. Will see if that works.

I just visited my BMW indi specialist and they hooked up the car up to their computer and the code reported "steering angle sensor". He cleared the code and told me to come back to have the sensor replaced if the light still comes on. After the shop visit, I decided to get the tire balanced, rotated and an alignment job just in case it helps. Turned out my steering tie rod were worn, I had them replaced before I got the alignment job. I was wishfully thinking that I have found the culpirt.

Sad to say, the light still comes on, but now it's on after 33km :thumbsdow Will drop my car off for the steering angle sensor replacement soon. They said the job involves removing the steering column, fitting the sensor and calibrating the new sensor to the car and should take a day. Will report back later. Thanks for the help guys.
