Here is what I did...

Went to the auto store and bought some shop towels, simple green, and armorall. Came home and found a spray bottle, you know the kind they use to cut hair, filled that up with water. I did the engine by sections, I would start of getting it wet, then spray some simple green and scrub, then I would just spray that all off with water. It was a pain using the spray bottle because I had to come inside and re-fill it about ten times. Then after I cleaned it all I sparyed it down with armorall and shined it up.

I would have probably used a hose but I just washed the exterior yesterday and I didn't want to get it all dirty again.

is there a point of detailing the engine bay?
take care of your car, looks good, easier to keep clean in the future. You can usually tell how good someone takes care of their car by looking how clean the engine bay is.

Yeah, the watr can get into electrical components and fry shit up real good. You could cover those areas with plastic, but your just better off doing it as described above.
