Hey people! I have an issue I was wondering if some of you could help me with?
I just purchased a 2000 BMW 323CI and it has 10k miles left on the 4/50k mile warranty, plus its a CPO with extended 100k mile warranty. When I bought the car (from a Chevy dealer) I didn't notice the small "pin-connector" underneath the dash board on the drivers side. It looks like its a headphone jack with a redlight and button on back. It says "silencer" on it and I contacted Silencer Corp and they said it was more than likely an add-on to the factory remote from a dealership (b/c it works thru the factory keyless entry). All it does is disables the ignition when the car is locked and then disarms when you unlock the car (emits a horn honk when locking/unlocking but does NOT protect hood/doors/trunk or glass). Silencer Corp. said that it has to be installed from a dealership as "demo" to show customers how the ignition kill works on alarms?? Silencer Corp said that is will not interfere with BMW controls or signals b/c all it is is a starter kill. I ONLY BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR THE WARRANTY. Do you guys recommend just leaving the silencer thing on there? Or do you guys recommend having it removed (do you guys think it will harm my car therefore messing with my CPO warranty). Do you think if anything ever happens to the car, BMW will point a finger at that module?? Please help. Thanks :D

You shouldn't be too worried... It only kills the ignition. What these morons don't know is that it's already stock on BMW's. If you don't have the matching key for the car the car will not start (chip inside your E46 key)...

Well I've took the car to numerous different alarm installation stores and no one knows what it is...therefore can't remove it. And too, most people immiediately say "THATS A BMW...WE'RE NOT TOUCHING IT!", so unless I drive back out of state to the place where the car is from...I can't have it removed. :banghead Do you guys think that it is that big of a deal? Or would you remove it?

I take that back...I've told the alarm places that it is a "Silencer", but none of them sell them and are not familiar with them. :thumbs

have you tried a BMW dealer? i believe the "Silencer" system is available through factories as i haven't seen them any where else.

i know my truck has that and it came with it as part of the factory security system.

Well thats what Silencer told me that more than likely it was installed on my car at the dealership when it was new. MY Bmw dealership, however, has never heard of it and doesn't know what it is. And, if they remove it...it will be in their computer that they removed an aftermarket alarm, and I don't want anything to be thrown in my face later down the road on a CPO warranty issue that the "Aftermarket" system caused it and therefore...my warranty isn't any good. So I was wondering should I just leave it alone, or have say Circuit City remove it? Thanks. OH>>How did you put the picture of your BMW on your reply's? Thanks again.

Is there any other views on what I should do as far as the "SILENCER" alarm? Does anyone have it or heard of it? I just don't want anything to hinder my CPO warranty. :driving
