I just bought a 2009 BMW Z4.

The CD system is brilliant. It allows me to feed serially my CDs (one at a time) into the slot. The car 'records' the CDs to memory so I don't have to keep my CD collection tied up in the car. Rather like loading an iPod or iTunes.

Even better, it allows me to play the music in any number of ways (e.g., "Most Played".

Is this feature new for 2009?

Thats a cool feature. Contact username RoadsterMadness, he's kind of a Z-nut. He might know about when they added that. They've had that technology in the aftermarket world for a couple years now.

i remember hearing something about the new systems having something like a 10gb HD for music and whatnot. Wonder how hard that would be to retrofit into an e30:shifty

i like how they don't list a price, it's too late to be seeing that kind of stuff.

I am thinking retail was just under 1K (maybe 899?). We had just gotten one before I quit the audio shop. Most of the price was for the GPS stuff. I was thinking Kenwood was the first, but couldnt find it anywhere. Quite a handful now have a rear USB plug for a thumb drive and support AAC/WMA/MP3/etc. directly from the thumb drive. I am sure they are cheaper now.

edit: here is a JVC for less than 400 that does USB/Ipod/etc.: http://reviews.cnet.com/in-dash-car...9_7-33576581.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

Alpine (Ipod/USB) for 250: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X303

Most of the Blaupunkts do it also, plus most also do the 4096 color display to match the funky orange BMW dash.

A little more information is necessary. Car/Year/Aftermarket/Stock? Most of the time if a cd changer is having issues, it'll need to be repaired at a reputable audio repair place. Preferably one that specializes in car audio.
