Hi,

have you had positive experience with the Bosch PLATINUM IR FUSION Sparkplugs at the M54 Enginge? (170, 192, 231PS)
So the OE Sparkplugs are: NGK BKR6EQUP Bosch Platinum 4 short Number 4417
The Fusion Iridium has the Model Number FGR7DQI (Bosch 4503)

so i think all this 3 sparkplugs has the samt gap.

who has this plugs in the bimmer and good experiences?

Thank a lot! :)

(sorry for my bad english ;))

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

the bosch iridium spark plugs are the same as the OE plugs..
the OEM Bosch plugs was platinum.
the spark design is 1:1 identical between platinum and iridium. (not so at NGK... ngk iridium sparks dosent work fine on speeds over 110miles/180kmh)

the bosch iridium plugs are to hold a longer time then the platinum and reduced the volt power. so we can spare the sparc coil :)
very interessted if you drive on LPG (liquid Propan gas) in europe :D

not so i exceed 110mph on a regular basis and have no probs with ngk.in fact at sustained high speed they purr like a kitten.in the cold they are a trifle lethargic ie first thing after startup in minus 0 situations.its feckin cold here now.lpg is for green pussies and tree huggers.six pots need benzine, propane is for your patio heater.
the pedal goes all the way to the carpet and thats the way bmw intend to be used.

JTP I disagree with your comment about LPG. The last two cars I have had (GMH not BMW) were both on LPG, not so much for environmental, but more for financial reasons. At somewhere between 65% & 50% difference in the cost of LPG to Petrol here in Australia, I am prepared to take the minor hit in performance to gain the savings in fuel costs. My most recent non BMW was a 5.0l V8 commodore. The LPG conversion cost me $2000 (in 1999) on top of the $26,000 buy price for the car. I have done just short of 400,000 km in that car since I purchased it with 32,000km on it, and that conversion has paid for itself and the car in fuel savings. Just in case anyone is curious, the 5.0l is still running strong, no burnt valves, valve seats or bore related issues. The gearbox only let go after 280,000km, and even then it only lost 1st, 4th and reverse, and didn't leave me sitting on the side of the road.

So at the risk of being branded a green tree hugging pussy, I am looking to put the 740iL on LPG as well, that should push it's nonstop driving range out to 1500km. Got to love duel fuel systems.:p

Your not the first person to offer that opinion, and I dare say you won't be the last.

It varies a bit depending on the season and world oil prices. These prices are based on what I remember paying around Melbourne.
Winter 09 (June - August) LPG $0.399 - $0.499. Petrol $1.159 - $1.499
Summer 09 (Now) LPG $0.519 - $0.599. Petrol $1.109 - $1.299
Even with the losses in LPG, it still worth the effort, especially if you do plenty of driving, and don't change your car every couple of years.

As an example, my wife has a 2.2l Subaru Liberty 4WD which is not on LPG, it is far cheaper for us to take my 5.0l V8 Commodore to her parents place (~180km round trip) than her Liberty. When we did a trip with both cars, it cost her $23 in petrol and me $11 in LPG.

LPG rocks:rule
