In addition to a 4.4-liter V-8 and 333 hp engine, the BMW 6-Series unveiled at Frankfurt last week had options galore. Top on the list was its "Head Up Technology," which displays dashboard indicators such as speed or navigation parameters directly in front of the driver on the windshield.
The Head Up display's image is produced by color LED light reflected across four mirrors positioned behind the instrument cluster and onto the modified windshield. Through mirror positioning, the image appears to freely float out in front of the hood.
In case you haven't figured out its purpose yet, the indicators on the windshield are supposed to help the driver remain focused on the road, instead of looking down at the dashboard to check such things as speed or fuel level.
