I've been "babysitting" a friend's 330ci (BLACK/CONVERTIBLE/47000 miles) for a bout a year now.

Situation is this:

He lives in Seattle and owns a condo in Atlanta (where I am). He frequently rents out the ATL condo, which has only one parking slot. So, he keeps the car at my place so that the renters can have the parking space.

I try to drive the car once a week or so -- when it is here -- to keep it in order.
Though I initially rejected the car because it was an automatic, the little bugger has grown on me. Brilliant engine, tremendous handling, etc.

He recently told me that -- as he is in town so little now -- that he might sell the car. He owes like 16,200 (USD) on it, and said I could just take over the payments.

The car is pretty much flawless, save the monstrous blind spot inherent to the extra-large C-pillar of the convertible top.

With a Corsa exhaust and a K&N intake, I'm thinking I might go from LIKING the car to LOVING it.

Should I do it? What's a fair price?

If you want it I would grab it up! You are looking at roughly $17,000 used for that car, probably around $17,200 if it is as great as you say. If there are some minor issues with the body, paint, or mechanical you are looking at about $16,400. In my opinion you are probably getting the car for the price you would if it was paid off and in excellent condition from an owner who wanted to sell it fast. It sounds good to me. The fact that you have driven it so much gives you a huge advantage over most buyers, you know the car. From how you describe it along with how much you drive it it appears to be a great car. I would buy it if I were you personally. Good luck...oh and you must post pics you know haha. I love 330cis.

I'd pick it up. Sounds like a good deal if you're friend just lets you take over the payments.

Perhaps I should elaborate here.

The outstanding balance is, like, $16,200. I would pay the loan off immediately, saving mad amounts of interest. Don't like debt.

Invest the savings in exhaust/intake , etc.

Now, how do you like the deal?

I recently paid $18.6K for my '05 330i convertible w/ 53K miles and 2K left on a CPO warranty (long story). My car has stock 17" wheels, and has a few body dings. $16.2K seems a bit high for an '02, however, the wheels alone (if you like them) are worth a grand. Plus you know the car well, and I assume you know your friend didn't abuse it (which I don't know about my car). Not a "steal," but a good solid deal.
