Hi folks,

I am somewhat new to the e46 world. Looking for an 02 to 04 wagon to replace our 06 Honda Pilot. I currently own a 02 540i 6spd sedan and love it. Do all my own maintenance on my car, but never touched the pilot as it came with a 100k mile service policy. Good thing too as it dropped the ac at 38k, the transmission at 40k, the nav system at 48k and a bunch of emissions stuff at 55k.

We are approaching the empty nest and my wife wants something fun yet functional to drive. My car is fun she says, but functional for a home depot run for plants and such.

Looking forward to joining the E46 "family"

The E46 wagons are less common then coupe and sedans (which might make a good example a little harder to find) but for what you're looking to use it for I think your wife will probably enjoy it and get the use out of it she needs. Best of luck with the search and let us know what you find!

And good thing about the Pilot with the 100,000 mile warranty...because it's been in my experience with friends and family members that Honda's are not cheap to fix. I've spent less money maintaining my E39 then some of my friends have spent on their Civics...

Thanx for the kind welcome!

bimmerfest has a wiki on buying an e46 that I read through, lots of good info there. Does this forum have something similar? Also, am looking for info on the performance and maintenance differences between the "xi" and "i". Searched the forum with not much success.

Thanx!

BTW - I just ordered brake pads | cross drilled rotors, (mostly for looks) | SS brake lines for my 540. Getting her ready for the VA safety inspection. I'll also be changing the oil | fuel filter | brake fluid | power steering fluid as well.
