1994 325I Convertable: My water pump blew and I changed it. I also changed both belts. The water pump/alt belt shredded when the pump failed. The next day on my way to work the ABS light came on along with the check engine light. The car lost power and I pulled into a parking lot and shut the car off. After a few minutes I started the car and everything seem to be working. (Now my odometer is at zero. What the heck is up with that?) I drove back home with no issues. I put a meter on the battery (12vlts), started the car and still had 12vlts. I replaced the alternator both voltage checks were good. The alternator screams at 1200 rpm's plus. I read through most of the posts and determined the tensioner was likely the problem. I purchased the idler pully too. After installing them...the scream remained unchanged. I noticed that the alternator pully was very hot after only running the engine for few minutes. I thought the pully was not tight enough so I removed the alternator again and ensured it was tight. After installing the alternator I still had the same problem. I called the auto parts store where I got the alternator and they said it may be a bearing in the alternator. I removed it again and they put a load on it....no issues for them. I reinstalled the alternator with hopes that the scream would have magically disappeared....no such luck. I'm now thinking....power steering pump... I did spray a fluid on the alternator pully and the noise went away for a few seconds. I need your help. What am I missing?
