I am a new owner of a certified 2001 325i sport and it came without an alarm. Does anyone know if alarms were standard or options for 2001? I thought it had an alarm until the car was delivered.

Also, I just had my passenger side brake warning light come on and I replaced teh burnt out light, but the warnign light is still on. Is that something which shoudl clear on its own, or soemthing I have to have the dealership clear for me?

Thanks

One thing i notice is bmw don't come standard with a lot of things you would expect :confused . My car has no alarm and no cruise control :confused. Not really sure about your model. As for your brake light did you replace it with the same wattage bulb or number. I think sometimes if you have a different wattage bulb that might effect the computer in thinking it is burnt maybe someone else has a different theory... Are all bulbs ok not burnt and secure in sockets. :driving

My 2000 328ci did not come with an alarm, although it is prewired for one. As for the brake light the tail lights are 21 watt bulbs. If you bought a bulb of lesser wattage the bulb will still light but will be dim compared to the others. I had some problems finding the right bulb the first time I had to replace one.

no alarms are not standard ( i dont really know why for a luxury sedan it should be) but they do come prewired for it but only for factory alarms i believe .. much like the CD changer.

as for the the bulb question mankik is right if you use the improper bulb youll set off the light. as it is an input into the cars ecu/bcm and the ecu needs to see the correct numbers in order to clear the code/lights. stuff like that is stored into the computer once fixed the memory goes volitile (like when you disconnect the battery) and erases it self..

hope that explains it..

Ahh, hadn't checked for the exact wattage of the bulb. Good points.

Sucks about the alarm. I was very surprised.

Thanks

Alarms can be installed optional.
As mentioned, the bulbs have to be the correct wattage. Also, if the THIRD brake light is out, it will also show the right side as being out. Check the third one also, unless of course you have an led third.
You may also have a license plate, reverse, or taillight out too.

I looked up the light and what the Sylvania guide showed is what I put in originally. When I looked closely at the bulb though it said 4 watt. I found a 12volt 21watt bulb and put it in and the warning light went off immmediately.

Thanks for the help.

Could anybody help me?
I have an M3 1999 Convertible.
The brake warning light came on.
I changed the front pads. Check the rear ones; they are fine.
However, the brake warning light did not go out.
What should I do?

You must replace brake sensor.

When the light turn on, the sensor close the contact and must be
replaced.

M3 convertible?
Great car!

I believe the sensors are on the passenger side in front and drivers side in rear. Replace both of them. They are only about 15 dollars each
