Well, I figured I'd start to document my adventure as I'm starting to really get underway with the project.

Started with a stock 2 owner 1987 325is. She has 90k miles, and drives like a dream. But, I couldn't keep her stock for long.

Goal is about 300whp for now... which is the limit of the automatic transmission. Yup, shes an auto, and she's staying that way at least for the time being. I figure with that it'll have a better power to weight ratio than a c6 vette, which is plenty to ask for a car that is over 20 years old and still has working A/C and power everything.

Have to keep that completely dent-free paint protected!

A few pics before any mods at all:

Parts start arriving!

Knock-off tial 38mm external wastegate.

Megasquirt system I spent the better part of 20 hours soldering together and troubleshooting and programming.

Installation begins!

GT3582r, 3" downpipe/exhaust. Running cat free to a 3" flowmaster 40 series muffler.

More to come in about a week hopefully!

Great project and really just in time.Received my first parts yesterday for my upgrade to a turbo.First I need to remove the 1.8 and then fit the L6 into the engine bay.I am hoping that it will slide in with no modifications needed. Thanks for the pics and please keep us posted, good luck on your build!

Oh god, you remember that beast? Haha that was a LONG time ago. Yes, I have learned a LOT since then.

I do miss those ATS Complite wheels off that old car though. Wish the still made them:

Car is 90% assembled, ECU had to be sent out to be troubleshooted.. something just wasnt working right. Hopefully it'll be sorted out soon and the beast will be driving soon! Hopefully updating this in a day or two with new pics.

sounds good man
Thanks :D

Wow that rules! What's your engine software on the laptop? :bravo
Tunerstudio MS Pro. Using megasquirt 2 engine management, its a good resource for tuning it. Its only $40.00 on top of the cost of the EMS and so far its been very helpful. The lite version is free is helpful, but the pro adds a lot of invaluable features.

So far loving how much program ability and control you have with megasquirt 2. The ecu is vastly more powerful and offers much greater resolution then the factory bosch ECU does.

Other than having to add a TPS sensor from an audi cabriolet (which was a direct bolt in replacement piece), I havent had to change anything from the factory wiring harness, which was my goal.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to finish tuning it and dyno it by sometime early next month. I'd like to see it put down 250whp with the auto tranny -given a curb weight of 2700lbs it should scoot along nicely.

Did a little customizing of the UI. Here is how I currently have Tunerstudio setup. Wanted it to feel more BMW-esque with maybe a little styling borrowed from Porsche.

Figured if going to stare at it for hours at a time might as well make it pleasing to look at.
