Ok, I'm buying a '97 Red M3 tomorrow or Wednesday. I have driven it for about 15 minutes and looked the entire car over. However, this is my first BMW and I am not sure what kinds of things I should look for. It's coming with a 3 month/3000 mile warranty, but I do not want to rely on that especially since the dealer is an hour drive away from my home.

Any insight is greatly appreciated...

check all the body panels to make sure it hasn't been in an accident. Run a carfax report. Make sure it has been serviced properly. Take it to a mechanic and have them run a pre purchase inspection. If you are really serious about buying you need to drive more then 15 minutes, take it out by yourself for an hour or longer.
