this is probably best done by a mechanic, ive done it (with the help of a trainned technician) and its relatively hard, id give it 3 out of 5 wrenches on the difficulty scale

morph, if you've never done A/C work before or have no knowledge about it...take it to a pro. The physical labor is actually very easy (to me), to the average joe, it's relatively difficult. To make the job "flow" easily, it is best to have some tools that are not usually found in the average car guy's tool box. Where the mind games come into play for the untrained is in properly charging the system and knowing just how much oil to add to the system. If you know a properly trained technician that could help you, it would be a GREAT opportunity to learn something. A/c systems are very interesting. I don't know your situation- what the problem is, who diagnosed it and what caused it - but I would recommend this: replace the drier at the same time, obviously use all new orings and flush the system. Check your belts as well, this would be a good time to replace them and you can have the shop do it for you since they already have them off and it won't cost anything. Hopefully this helps. good luck
