I'm thinking about buying these performance chips for my car. How do these chips work? Am I going to see a big difference in HP change? What's the difference between this and the ones they sell on ebay?

Thanks for your help

looking at that link the only only reason why you'd get more bhp is because it alters the top end rpm, which is all good but i'm sure why the engine redlines at what it's set at. i'd avoid like the plague.

That thing can't alter the rev limiter. All it does is change the intake air temperature reading the computer sees (by adding resistance), and the ECU thinks: "Ah, there's a lot more, colder, more dense air coming in, dump in more fuel" ... and as a byproduct of running rich as hell you might see a few horses ... really, if you wanna put "performance parts" like that on your car, you're a lot better off with that electric supercharger thing, because as horrible as that it is, it is actually shoving more air into the engine and the ECU is adjusting based on real, not fictional air flow values.

hmmm. ok. did you actually look at the link? the stock dyno read out stops at 5500 rpm and the chipped dyno goes up to 6000rpm . there is no reason a chip can't alter the rpm setting. peak horse power arrives at the top end of the rev range, the higher the revs the higher the bhp.

Yes I did look at the link and yes I did see their graph; I'm telling you what the thing actually is and what it actually does: it just alters the IAT readings the ECU sees and makes your car run rich.

How else would they convince you to buy it if they didn't give you a fake dyno graph and lots of colorful feel-good information. Notice how it says it's specific to your vehicle yet it says it can be used for cars with 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 cylinders? :rofl

And if you really think two wires coming out of a plastic box with a bunch of resistors can alter the rev limiter AND give your car 50 horsepower, then I'd really like to hear how it works ...
