I'm just curious if there was indeed a 1992 BMW M3 or not. I personally am a Volvo driver, but over on the volvo forums we were having a little talk about it. BMWcars.com says yes, it was an E46 and this kid the next town over has a title with 92 on it for a grey E30. Another guy says there wasn't one. Can we get some help please?

Quote from unofficialbmw.com:
The total number of E30 M's imported to the US was 4,996. Per the Dec. 97 european car, the breakdown is as follows: 1-1987, 2916-1988's, 898-1989's, 799-1990's, and 382 1991's. I recall Bob Roemer indicating in the Roundel that the total worldwide production of E30 ammounted to some 17,000cars, but I don't have the exact count. I could find it if anybody really wanted to know.

there was no US-1992 M3 unless somehow at the tail end of E30 M3 production, the last few to roll of the line were designated model year 1992. but the true 1992 model year marked the beginning of E36.

1992 would be an E36 series.

M did not appear in E36 until 1995.

the last production of E30 M3 was 1991.

i stand corrected. 1995 was US debut of E36 M3.

web search has turned up a number of 1993 and 1994 EUROPEAN individuals.

the euro e36 m3 debuted around oct 1992, and i have heard some people claim that they have a euro 92 M3, but bmw started selling them as 93's as far as i know. the Groupe A E30 M3 was built until 93 (or late 92), but in very limited quantities which i dont think were available to the public

Not to be a jerk, sorry if it comes off that way? But if the public didn't get them who did?

avalible to the public may mean just the US market, weather or not they put the 1992 M3 into production answers your original question, but if someone is driving one, i wanna see a picture of the inside of the drivers door frame (they can cover the VIN number if they want) it will tell me production date if its late 1992 then really its considered a 1993
