I recently purchased my 1995 BMW 740iL and dont get my wrong it is an amazing car even for its age, but I do have one concern which is that the "Check Engine Light," on the dashboard on the car will not turn off, I was hesistant to buy the car because of this but decided to bite the bullet and buy the car. Has anyone encountered this problem, if you have and know how to repair this problem without going to the dealership because I have heard it can be done, please tell me I am hesistant to drive this car because of it! Thanks ManUtd29

I wouldn't be worried about it at all. The check engine light can come on for the gas cap not being screwed on tight enough. The check engine light just has to do with emissions, I went to the dealer one night before they were about to close and had them check my car because the light had come on, they told me not to worry and just drive the car as normal.

If you want to read the code without going to the dealer you will need a code reader.
and code readers are kinda $$ cuz i have one.and my step dad sells them..but they run around $2400
