Um.... getting ready to swap my 1986 325es motor with an 1988 325is motor i know that the trans are diffrent and air flow meter is diffrent just wondering if the drive shafts are the same or not or if yall want to give me a heads up on anything i might be over looking or any suggestions would be nice.:help

you will run into probs unless you know what you are doing.

The es motor is gone and was looking to upgrade to a little more horse power and rev limit and the 325is motors are capable of more performance upgrades in the long run. i know that im going to have to change out the wiring harness and also the brain but im really looking forward to doing the swap

sorry to threadjack but can you get the numbers off the computer since im down to 2 options as to what is wrong with my motor and i dont really know the year of the computer but its a 6 pin and looking thru the manual its a 6 pin but i think yours will have more, i just want to see if i could swap with yours since i havent thought of an easy way of testing the crank sensor in the distributor.:emo

ok. if you do that.. make sure you have a matched set.

I'm not too familiar with the 1979 320; but i am sure the DME/ECU is a totally different computer from the 325i .

I think the 1979 still used the "KUGELFISCHER" system or the Bosch K-Jetronic system.... Later models use the MOTRONIC system.

FYI : crankshaft sensor can be tested using DVOM. Theoretically, you should have a resistance of 1280 ohms +/- 10%. In practice, even a 550 ohm reading is still ok.

i like my bmw since its a 320-6 body (i checked the number on the web) the engine i think is a 528e somewhere around 85 to whenever they stopped using the m20, and it has a carbuetor intake on it and having some difficulty identifing the wiring harness which by my guess and my dad's is similar to a '81 528i

i suggest you start a new thread. That way u don't cloud the other fellow's issues

Ok i checked ur post out did u ever figure out anything with the key situation and y it wasnt staing started and did u have to change out the hole harness and what did u figure out about the air flow

Yes the silinoid was sticking,No you can plug the 88 ecu into the 86 harness (worked for me)The airflow not sure about as i dont have a dvom.Just take your time if you are going to do it.Change the oil pan gasket why its out, lot easier.PM me if i can help any.
