Hi all, new to the site and plenty of good info...
I have trawled through all the E46 problem pages but cant quite put my finger on my problem and was hoping for a bit of help from someone with a bit of previous experience...
The Bmw is a 320d 2002 model with 130k with full service history.
I have a feeling that one of the injectors has faulted as there is a distint diesel knock. It seems to be coning from the bottom end which initially worried me as i thought it might have been really serious. I have taken the sump guard (belly cover) off and felt around the sump area and there are no obvious signs that it is in the bottom end...ie, pistons, crank etc.
I have now taken the engine covers off and held a screw driver handle to each of the injector top and you can definately feel the knocking through the one closest to the bulk head.
The knocking is all the time, not too bad on start up but you can hear it whilst driving and under load. The problem seemed to have occured on a motorway trip, i thought i would put some super diesel in and not long after the knocking just appeared, hasn't got better or worse in approx 200 miles of driving since but it is worrying me now as i have read loads of horror stories about new engines etc etc
Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
Thanks, Ben :(

Bit of an update....
Purchased a reconditioned injector as i had diagnostics hooked up and injector 4 was reading completely different to the rest. Fitted the recon'd one today and it hasn't stopped any knocking....no worse, no better. So i thought i'd change number 3 over as well just incase and again no difference. While i had the inlet manifold off i thought i would take off the flaps that cause such problems if/when they snap off! One of them (at injector 4 location) was gone......does anyone think that this is what the knocking is?
Bare in mind i have driven it like this for approx 1000 miles and it's got no worse (the knocking) but fuel economy seems to have been affected and it doesn't feel as powerful as it was.
Any help at all would be hugely appreciated because my only option at the moment is to bring it to Bmw!!!

Hi All,
I a new to this site. I have a E46 320D, 2002 FL model that has 142000 KM. I have DECAT the system and need to know if the CU needs to be remapped, or is there anything else needs to be done.

Regards
