Hey everyone having a few dramas here. My housemates beamer blew the engine so off to the wreckers they went and picked up a LH2, the 1 that we pulled out has LH6 on the block. I dont know too much about beamers but we started to do the swap.

everything on the engine was different from the aircon bracket to the wiring loom.

So what we did was change almost everything over. Weve used the loom from the LH6 onto the LH2 along with everything else like the top half of the manifold, the powersteering, aircon pump, ect ect, everything we had to change to make it work.

engine is now in and working fine along with the following problems......
when you turn the ignition on from a cold start the temp guage goes straight to halfway and then proceeds to go up from there. only other problem im having is the L/100k guage goes straight off the deap end as soon as you turn the motor on??????

Can anyone please help me with these problems it would be extremly appreciated.

Also there is 1 wire that we dont know where it goes which is on the part of the loom that goes just underneath this round thing right near the brake booster. ill get a pic of that too.

Welcome to the Werkz........:)

That cable end looks to be a car body ground, as far as the temp. gauge issue, make sure the coolant system is bled of all air........& the clutch fan is operating properly.......

Thanks heaps for the reply.
Yeah ive bled the system properly, its cooling down right now.

The main problem i have is the temp guage starting off at 50% where obviously when the motor is dead cold it should start at 0% :(

do you or anyone know the difference between the temp sensors on a LH6 and a LH2 engine???

I think i will get both engine numbers and run them by BMW.

That does sound like a faulty temp. sensor.......what year & model did the LH2 come out of?

Yeah thats the problem hey, i dont know what it came out of thats why im going to get the engine numbers to bmw and see if i can shed some light on what this motor they got from the wreckers is. i think im going to have to take the temp sensor off the other head that was in the car and put it on this new one :(

bloody hell, now when you turn the headlights on the brake lights come on and when you dont have the lights on at all the brake lights dont work at all :help

any suggestions anyone??? its got me stumped.

turned out the black temp sensor was different from the 2 motors. hhmmmmm this new problem might be the wire near the brake booster that looks like an earth but i dont know where it goes. the reverse lights dont work either :(
