I recently purchased a 2000 528i and there are a few issues. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with any advise.

1- When the car is in park and idleing at a light, the idel will drop really low and act like it wants to stahl out and sometimes it gets higher as well.

2- When the car is in park, there will be an occasional 'thump' noise. It comes and goes, sometimes once every few minutes and sometimes several times per minute. When the throttle body and the valve next to the intake (inside the black box) were removed, the black plastic valve had one end that was broken off. The sound that these valves made when we opened and released the valve to snap back was very similar to that when it is in park. I was told it is not the throttle body because that would cause the motor to rev up if there were the wrong amount of fuel being delivered. There were some fuel delivery codes as well. Someone said it was the a/c compressor but it made the same noise with the air on and with it off.

3- Sometimes my alarm will go off for no reason?

4- My speedometer works off and on.. cruise the same.

5- I have the ABS light and Brake light on as well.

6- The airbag light is on as well.

Please ask questions if you need more information. I am not a car expert and this was given to me as a gift .. and I love it but would like to make sure things get fixed!

Thanks in advance!

Here are the codes that were pulled

P1250 - Manufacturer Specific DTC

P0170 - Fuel Trim B1

P0173 - Fuel Trim B2

P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor

P1188 - Maufacturer Specific DTC

P1189 - Maunfacturere Specific DTC

P0130 - O2 CKT 1/1

P0150 - O2 CKT 2/1

Any ideas on where to start? I am replacing the valve gaskets and will post any changes in codes when complete.

hello, sounds like a vacuum problem to start. you could have one or more vacuum leaks. you said there was a broken part behind throttlebody right? do you have a pic of broken part? sounds like your ccv and/or the hoses going to it.

what kind of scanner are you using for the codes? i dont think it can read all the codes. that is why some of them say "dtc" i would try i different scanner or take it to a shop.

start with that first.does it look like this link below?

I also have a 2000 BMW 528i and had a rough idle when I started up the engine. Also, it was rough when I was stopped at a light. took it to the dealership and they said it was the crankcase ventilation--cost me $875 (they said about 4 hours of labor). I knew the dealership would inflate the cost but after reading some of the threads, I'm seeing that it is about a 4 hour job and some people paid up to $700.

Throttle Body ruined by ccv fix

Immediately after my CCV was replaced, the brake warning light, eml and (!) came on. I could not drive over 20 mph. None of these were issues BEFORE taking the car into the dealership for the CCV. Even their own diagnostic test was devoid of any issues relating to the throttle body. The dealership refused to admit that perhaps one of their technicians may have not been careful fixing the CCV. I only know this because after some research, I understand that in order to replace the CCV you must REMOVE the throttle body, but be incredibly careful when doing it so you don't damage the throttle body. Can anyone confirm this understanding that I have? I smell a lawsuit, but want to be sure I understand what my research revealed. Thanks.

I know i have a different year, but my 99' 528 had a very simular issue. When Idle at a light it would idle extremely rough and dip down alot. It got so bad I had to shut the car off and start it agaiN. I would also get a lack of power very frequently. As for the rough idle, it was a huge tear in the intake boot connected between the MAFS and the throttle body intake boot. The huge lack in power that prevented me from going 25+ mph was due to engine misfires in the cylinders. I had to change my ignition coils . Did you change the ignition coils, spark plugs, intake boot ?
