Hi All;
I have 2000 323i from last three years. Recently, "Check Engine Light" comes on. I have replaced fuel tank cover. But, no luck. Sometimes, car stops while I am driving. I took to local mechanic. He found that cam shaft position sensor problem (P340 error code). He told me that it will take him one or two days to locate this sensor.
Why does car stops when I am driving and should I give car to local mechanic r for couple of days? OR take to dealer.

If your mechanic needs days to locate your cam sensor he does not seem qualified to work on a BMW. Take it to the dealer or better (probably cheaper) take to a shop specializing in BMW and/or European cars. Hope you have that at your location.

The sensor should be right on top of the motor, towards the front. You could save a bunch of money and DIY.

there are 2 sensors. intake and exhaust, do you know which one?
