I'm on the lookout, again, for a newer Bimmer... (newer/faster) than my 95-318ti.

At one local used car lot, they have the following:

a] 323i - model year 2000 - 69,000 miles - $17,000 (red)
b] 528i - model year 1999 - 66,000 miles - $ 18,000 (black)
=====================================

What do you guys think...
I'm interested in hearing a variety of feedback and input.
...things like cost of ownership, speed, available add-ons, known problems, etc.

Thanks

It sounds like you're very unsure of what you want. It's hard to imagine that you decided you want more power than your current car and concluded that a 323 or a 528 are your ideal cars. Do you want a more family-oriented sedan or a smaller compact for just speeding around? I'd decide those types of things before you go looking any further or worrying about color options

Well, that's one reason I'm asking for input from you guys...
I would assume that the 323i & the 528i are both quicker (more powerful) than my 318ti right?? Maybe not night and day but a few more horses I would assume.
I would like to have a 4-door sedan that has some power.
The trade off is I could possibly find a 330i or 530i but then I'd be looking at a little older car in order to fit the budget. I didn't want to go any older than say a 1998 (unless it has really low miles) so I thought these two were represantative of what I might find out there in the $15,000- $20,000 price range. Would most of you suggest a 5-series over a 3-series??

OK
without gettign a little too personal, how about maybe ur general age range. Are you a teenager? out of college? 20-30 years old? someone older?
I dotn want to insult anyone so i will let you answer that before i directly respond to your question.

Also you might consider if you want to upgrade your car. An e39 is a bit more expensiove to upgrade, especially considering that the e39 up[grade parts are slightly more rare than e46 parts. Are you on a tight budget for this?

they are both 4 door sedans, so as a teenager i would take the more compact and sporty e46. I am well aware of the innovative technology of the e39 but still, i got my teen reputation to protect

what is your visual of yourself driving?

If you're coming out of a 318ti, I'd go with the 3er. But I like smaller cars, you may be different.

But what TECH said was interesting.
