Amateur radio

Hi all, looking to fit my amateur radio yaesu 857d into a 2006 320D.
Basically can i wire it direct to battery without any ill effect on the cars systems. On full power the radio will draw around 15 amps so direct to battery is reccomended. There is not a lot of info available online so hopefully someone may have done this. Thanks in advance,

Lindsay
