I don't know about changing the top as I got mine new and have yet to change it (important word being - YET). Anyway, I did have a problem with the string mechanism on the side of the top where it folds - right on the joint near the driver's head. The string had come off by itself and I could not get it back on. The dealer bitched (it was still under full warranty coverage) that it was a big job, they had to order a "kit" to do it, couldn't do it on a Saturday because such a big job etc etc. In the end, they fixed it in an hour on a Saturday and no big deal. Probably a pain for little $ so they scare you off a bit. They must have the technology down for changing the top since there are a zillion BMW convertibles out there and these things just wear out. If you aren't getting the answers you want, just go to your local BMW dealer's service department and ask. They are supposed to shoot for "excellent" service or nothing so you likely will get the help you need whether they really want to give it or not as BMW North America usually calls to see how your experience was and the dealer really wants to protect its rating.

I know it seems a long way, but you'll get there. Stay with it.

Ok I will talk to the dealership and see if they can give me an idea, and if not if they will install and aftermarket top(highly doubt). One othere thing got the car back everything looks good in and out of the car one question they told me that there was a rattle in the back and this was becuase the spare tire was not in its bracket. To me it seems like something in the differential everytime I step off the gas it kinda goes clunk clunk clunk clunk, what that is the only time. Any ideas

subframes can go bad on the z models, or any e36 for that matter. The 323's have a single exhaust pipe from the cat back to the muffler I believe.. or at least the muffler only has one pipe going to it, unlike the 325's that have 2.

I vote against vinyl. Just a personal preference though.

Well when I let off the gas it makes a clunk clunk clunk sound for a few seconds then it stops, sometimes it will do it until i push the brakes or push the petal again. Really weird, to me it seems like a differntial or something???
