I have a 2000 Z3 with the 2.3. I had a check engine light on and kept checking the gas cap--it would go out after 3 starts. Had light checked out at Autozone and it was a P1397: Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit (Bank 1). I understand that this is the exhaust sensor, which is the cam sensor without the pigtail. I have been searching and understand that it is easy to change from the front of the engine. I have looked and find how to change what I think is the intake sensor. Is there a url for the exhaust sensor? Are my conclusions correct above.
I am new to this site and would appreciate any advise and help.
I replaced the sensor and purchased an OBDII reader in order to clear the code. The problem is the code keeps coming back--the exact same code. Any suggestions?
I've got the same issue but I'm showing a different code. P0340 which is also showing bank 1. I've done some research and out of the half dozen people I've talked to half say bank one is the intake, the other half say the exhaust. I would suggest either replacing the other one too or just switching which one you replaced the first time.
That, or get someone with a GT1 computer to read the codes...the little code readers that you get from Bavauto or whatever are decent for getting a general idea of what could be wrong, but aren't always 100%.
I did try putting the old sensor back in but had the same result. Sent the new sensor back and received another new sensor. Problem went away. Guess it was just a defect.
I have the exact same problem as tsoileau. I'm trying to replace the intake camshaft position sensor, the one with the pigtail and I cannot find it. I already did the exhaust. Where exactly is the Intake located.... I'm new to this site and unfamiliar with acronynms.... sorry. Any help would be appreciated greatly.
